ATESL Best Practices Workshop (Calgary)
ATESL is rolling out its new “Best Practices for Adult ESL and LINC Programming in Alberta” document. During this workshop you will be oriented to the document and learn about how it came to be. You will also have the opportunity to explore ways of using the document as a reference tool and as a catalyst for reflective practice and collaboration. Each participant will receive a copy of ATESL’s “Best Practices for Adult ESL and LINC Programming in Alberta.” The workshop will be conducted by Sara Gnida, an ESL instructor and curriculum developer with over 20 years of experience in the field of ESL.

ATESL members enjoy a variety of privileges including newsletter and journal subscriptions, event registration discounts, access to job postings, and the opportunity for professional accreditation. Some of these are available from this website.

Website Membership

Even if you are a member of ATESL, you will need to be registered with this site to enjoy all the privileges we have to offer. You can register yourself right from this site, but please give us a few days to verify your membership information and provide you with the correct access privileges. ATESL Membership

If you aren't yet a member of ATESL you can apply using our online application forms or conventional forms. You can still register for this website, but you won't be able to enjoy the full privileges until your ATESL membership has been processed. The Alberta Teachers of English as a Second Language (ATESL) is a professional organization that promotes the highest standards of teaching and English language program provision for all learners in Alberta whose first language is other than English.

We both encourage and provide professional development opportunities for teachers, we create awareness about immigration and the settlement of new immigrants in our province, and we liaise with government and private organizations, all in an effort to advance the quality of ESL learning.

ATESL Accreditation

ATESL offers an accreditation service for its members. A member who is approved for accreditation receives a membership card with an accreditation number that signifies that his or her professional training and experience have been recognized and acknowledged by our professional body. The ATESL website is here to serve both our members and non-members who have ESL interests. As a member of ATESL, you will have access to special features of this website, however both ATESL members and non-members will find resources that will assist in your ESL interests. ESL Resources

We have a section devoted to teaching and ESL information resources, including links to other websites of interest. Feel free to browse these resources as often as you wish. To check out these resources, see Resources.

ESL Job Postings

ATESL members who are registered with this site can browse our ESL/EFL job listings. As the provincial accreditation body, we have access to many of the job opportunities available within Alberta, and our affiliation with National and International organizations gives us access to National and International job opportunities. Bursaries

ATESL members are eligible for bursaries for conferences or courses of study. Details about these bursaries are available on our website. For more information, see under the Membership section. This is a members only service.
