ATESL 2017 Conference — Expanding Possibilities: Diversity and Innovation

The ATESL 2017 Conference is taking place on October 20th and 21st at The Westin Hotel located in beautiful downtown Calgary, Alberta. The conference theme is Expanding Possibilities: Diversity and Innovation. The theme is intended to capture the creativity and responsiveness English language professionals demonstrate on a regular basis, particularly in light of emerging opportunities and challenges.

We are excited to announce Dr. Bonny Norton (University of British Columbia), Dr. Darren Lund (University of Calgary), and Dr. Greg Kessler (Ohio University) are the keynote speakers! The keynote talks will be streamed live at https://bcteal.wordpress.com/2017/10/04/atesl-bcteal-ets-2017/

Invited speakers include Espen Stranger-Johannessen (University of British Columbia) and a panel of experts from Bow Valley College, including Joy Stillwell, Tiffany Allard, Dan Merryfield, Wanda Warkentin, and Nadia Khan.

ATESL is very grateful to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and SAIT for sponsoring the keynote and invited speakers. IRCC is also the generous sponsor of American Sign Language supports for the keynote and invited speakers.

The online conference schedule is now available. Click here for more details.  (Please note the schedule is subject to revision.)

Do you have an ATESL conference bag from a previous year? One special prize will be awarded on both Friday and Saturday to the individuals who bring the oldest ATESL conference bag. Be sure to check in with Irene Wood at the ATESL desk to enter the competition. In an effort to reduce ATESL’s carbon footprint, conference bags will not be provided this year. Instead, we ask that you bring your own bag to stash the printed at-a-glance conference program and an ATESL pen.

Educational Technology Summit (ETS)

In addition to a jam-packed schedule of excellent professional development sessions ATESL conference delegates have come to know, this year’s conference features the Educational Technology Summit. This special event is a collaborative initiative organized by ATESL and BC TEAL. It will take place concurrently with the regular conference sessions on Saturday, October 21st.

The wildly popular Ed Tech Jam is back this year and taking place during the ETS. Check out the online schedule for more details about the presentations and presenters.
