ATESL Edmonton Local Meeting Friday, April 27, 2018
Apr 27, 2018
Location:
- NorQuest College, Singhmar Center for Learning, Room 3-110
Agenda:
4:30 - 5:00 p.m. - Snacks, beverages, and reconnect with other ESL practitioners.
5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. - Remote Presentation by Kelly Morrissey Cover Less, Uncover More: the Transformative Power of Slowing Down
Do you agree that our learners’ progress is best measured by how much they retain rather than by how many pages they turn? Are you at a loss for how to implement recursive teaching that leads to increased student confidence, engagement, and a sense of control over the language? Do you appreciate classroom practice that is backed up by cognitive science?
In this presentation, you will learn low-prep ways to easily incorporate activities that guide students back into previously studied material in order to foster deeper processing and retention of language. You will have an opportunity to explore a variety of free worksheets and graphic organizers that can be used with any written or audio text. An overview of the supporting research will be provided.
Note: Remote access will be provided to ATESL members upon request.
Hope to see you there!
