Building Critical Thinking Skills in English Language Learners
Nov 20, 2025
Thursday, November 20
4:30 to 6:00 PM
Hosted on the ATESL Edmonton Tutela Page
Presenter - Lia Dela Cruz
Developing critical thinking skills helps English language learners enhance their communication. Through intentional critical thinking tasks, instructors can help learners, expand their vocabulary, strengthen their accuracy and fluency and use language for different purposes in a variety of contexts. During this interactive workshop, participants will explore what critical thinking is, strategies and tips for helping learners develop these skills, as well as practical communicative activities that can foster valuable critical thinking skills.
Rosalia Dela Cruz has been an EAL practitioner in Canada for 15 years. Though her first love is classroom teaching, she has also worked in language assessment, curriculum development, and teacher training, and is currently the Alberta Routes Advisor for Central Alberta. She lives in Edmonton and enjoys hiking, biking, and cooking hearty soups to warm her family in the cold months.
