Community of Practice Sharing Session: Learning from Peers in the ESL Community

Nov 24, 2017

Thank you to the members who completed the survey sent out in September! Based on the results of the survey, the following preliminary event has been planned:

The ESL profession is filled with talented, dedicated individuals who have developed pedagogical expertise by working with diverse second language learning populations. Many ESL educators have experience working in international settings and have contributed to curriculum development at their institutions. The cumulative expertise of the ESL teaching community is an invaluable resource to support the professional growth of peers in the field. As a result, the first ATESL professional development event for the 2017-2018 academic year will be a community of practice sharing session – local ESL educators and administrators will share best practices, activities, resources, or great ideas to promote discussion and contemplation about teaching practices.

Please come and join in the event as a participant or presenter. We already have a number of educators and administrators who have agreed to provide a brief (5 – 7 minute) talk about a topic, but if you are also interested in sharing a best practice, activity, resource, etc., please contact Greg Ogilvie (gogilvie@atesl.ca) or David Fuller (southernab@atesl.ca). The event will be followed by an informal social event at the campus pub, the Zoo, located adjacent to the session in Turcotte Hall on the University of Lethbridge campus.

Date: Friday, November 24, 2017

Time: 4:00 – 6:00

Location: TH 341 University of Lethbridge

Cost: Free

Light refreshments will be provided
