LINC Digital Navigator (Part-time, fixed-term contract)

Organization: YMCA Calgary
Location: Online and on site at Calgary Shawnessy YMCA branch
Compensation: Hourly $15 - $30
Closing Date: June 30, 2023

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technological/online support to students: using various features of Zoom, online homework submission, completing assessments, and asking for help in an online setting, etc.
  • Create instructional materials like videos and presentations for classroom use
  • Assist teachers in preparing for the online classes: setting up meetings, sending invites, assisting in setting up online assessments and homework submissions, troubleshooting as required, etc.
  • Assist teachers and students in face-to-face classes: setting up computers, helping students to log in and complete tasks from the tech-related lesson plans, completing other tasks assigned by teachers
  • Work closely with the program supervisors to ensure that the students and teachers are supported
  • Stay on top of the upcoming changes in the program and ensure that the students and teachers are supported amid those changes.
  • Travel as required and be available during different class times (morning, afternoon, and evening)

Skills:

  • An ability to troubleshoot in online and in-person environments
  • An ability to follow instructions and complete tasks assigned by teachers and program supervisors
  • Strong working knowledge of Zoom and MS Teams features; willing to learn other applications and software as required
  • The ability to build professional and amicable relationships with teachers and students • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary degree in related field (e.g., second language teaching + educational technology/instructional design)
  • Experience using technology for teaching language

Assets:

A successful candidate will also have:

  • Experience working with adult students with varying English proficiency levels
  • Knowledge of second language educational platforms such as Ellii (former ESL library) and learning management systems (LMS) such as Google classroom and Moodle
  • Knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and adult ESL context in Canada, specifically Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

Requirements:

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months)
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Three professional references
