LINC Program Coordinator - Evenings

Position Title: LINC Program Coordinator - Evenings

Hours of Work: 18 hours per week (Evenings – Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays)

Location: Southwest Office (820 Saddleback Road)

About ASSIST: ASSIST Community Services Centre has provided settlement support to newcomers since

1977. Our Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program is a federally funded program

providing immigrants and refugees with the English language and cultural skills necessary for life in Canada.

We strongly value a diverse and multilingual workforce. This position reports to the LINC Program Manager.

Position Summary: The LINC program at ASSIST is seeking an experienced PBLA-trained language instructor

to join our team as a Program Coordinator.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring high quality programming and smooth daily operations of the evening language program. They provide support and supervision to teaching staff, office staff, and students, including the following general duties:

 Supervise LINC teachers and office staff, managing daily issues and requests

 Provide orientation to new staff and students, and perform intake duties when required

 Ensure staff meet all reporting requirements and deadlines; provide reports to Manager

 Monitor and encourage implementation of LINC and PBLA programming

 Assist in student placement & promotion decisions in unclear or disputed cases

 May be required to fill in for a teacher on short notice

 Arrange for substitute teachers, field trips, guest speakers or events as needed

 Coordinate communication with students, and maintain program schedule and calendar

 Collect and review staff timesheets and approve student and staff requests for leave


 Degree in ESL, Education or a related field

 Certificate or Diploma in Teaching English from an institution recognized by TESL Canada

 Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching ESL (Experience in a LINC program is strongly preferred)

 Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and familiarity with the LINC program required

 Completion of CLB Bootcamp and PBLA training

 Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role mentoring instructors

 Highly proficient in spoken and written English and additional language strongly preferred

 Experience with multi-cultural clientele, especially those with limited English skills

 Service-oriented approach to helping clients and students

 Advanced computer skills and a willingness to tackle IT issues

 Exceptional time management, decision-making, organizational and prioritization skills
