Professional Development Lead

The Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies (AAISA) is a non-profit umbrella organization representing agencies that provide resettlement, settlement, and integration services to newcomers in the province of Alberta. Since 1980, we have been working to build the sector’s capacity to better serve newcomers by fostering collaboration, professionalization, and member-driven research and policy work.
AAISA’s Programs & Services Unit builds the capacity of settlement and integration service providers through professional development services geared towards improved professional settlement practice across Alberta and the Prairies and Northern Territories region. The Professional Development Lead is responsible for overseeing AAISA’s professional development course creation, delivery, and evaluation in supporting the mental health needs of refugees to Alberta and the Practitioners that support them.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


CURRICULUM DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT & EVALUATION
•       Work closely with third party Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop and deliver mental health training
•       Serve as SME for internal course creation and delivery
•       Support the SME selection process, including creation of request for proposals, reviewing proposals, and communicating with potential SMEs
•       Review project deliverables from SME to ensure the alignment of curricula to the Settlement Practitioner Competency Framework and professional development committee strategic and business plans
•       Operate as point of contact to coordinate course development with SMEs in the design and upgrade of online, blended, and face to face courses
•       Support the Professional Development and Certification Officer in arranging logistics for courses, including venue booking, scheduling, registration, and communication
•       Support the Learning and Technology Coordinator to ensure the content from SMEs are delivered on schedule
•       Assist the Learning and Technology Coordinator to test the final online course content
•       Collect and synthesize data based on reporting and funders’ needs
•       Manage, implement, and evaluate AAISA’s online curricula for settlement professionals
•       Guide the development and coordination of professional development opportunities including formal and informal credit and non-credit courses and webinars
•       Conduct needs assessment and evaluation for online learning
•       Stay up to date with evaluation and outcomes measurement tools and methods
•       Assess instructional effectiveness and lead the development of evaluation reports, determining the impact of training on learners and as well as AAISA’s impact as it relates to other core deliverables
•       Provide instructional design expertise to ensure accepted adult education principles are in place and track new training methods and techniques
•       Integrate the latest educational research findings and evidence to improve the quality of curricula and learning experience for settlement professionals

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
•       Work closely with the Manager and the Programs & Services Unit to plan, implement, and assess projects supporting the settlement and integration sector and strategic goals of the organization
•       Develop strong working relationships with SMEs and contractors, as well as settlement professional learners and AAISA committees

DECISION MAKING
•       Recommends strategies that support AAISA’s key initiatives
•       Determines how to best engage stakeholders to further enhance effective learning and professional development service delivery
•       Determines type and level of information needed by management to support decisions
•       Determines appropriate strategies and target audience when developing work plans and other business documents

DUTIES
•       Assist the Business Development & Outreach Coordinator and Professional Development Certification Officer in building Programs & Services outreach strategies
•       Some travel may be required
•       Other tasks as assigned by Manager

QUALIFICATIONS
•       Experience with adult learning, curriculum development, and/or instructional design
•       Post-Secondary Degree in related field and/or equivalent education and experience
•       Experience and/or education background in mental health supports, training, or services
•       Demonstrated experience in project management
•       Fluency in French is an asset
•       Previous experience in newcomer services and/or in a non-profit environment is an asset.
•       Demonstrated strong attention to detail
•       Excellent communication skills both written and oral; ability to communicate effectively and confidently while maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion when dissemination information to others
•       Personable with strong relationship building skills
•       Experience working with Learning Management Systems, WordPress, CRMs, Zoom, and the Microsoft Office 365 including Teams and SharePoint 
•       Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail, sound judgment to make independent decisions and employing critical thinking
