TESOL (ELP) Instructor (2 positions)

Selkirk College’s School of International Education invites applications for the position of Instructor to teach in their English Language Program (ELP) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Advanced Diploma program.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 Provide instruction to students enrolled in the English Language and TESOL Programs at Selkirk College

 Provide ELP instruction at various levels of grammar, reading, writing, and communication

 Be a practicum sponsor teacher

 Provide TESOL instruction in a variety of language skill areas

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

 Demonstrate excellence in teaching and assessing diverse learners

 Demonstrate skills and competence in delivering teacher training

 Demonstrate the initiative and dedication to provide a quality and motivated learning environment for Selkirk students

 Demonstrate intercultural competence

 Strong organizational, problem-solving, excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both orally and in writing)

 Strong competencies in working independently and as part of a team

Education and Experience

 Master’s Degree in a TESOL, Linguistics or related field,

 TESL Canada - Standard Two (Permanent) Certification (or be eligible)

 Three to five (3-5) years (1500-2000 hours minimum) adult English as a Second Language teaching experience

 1-2 years TESOL teaching experience

These are non-regular positions at a 70-100% teaching load (dependent on enrolment) commencing August 20, 2018 and ending April 30, 2019 with the possibility of work in future semesters. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement. The salary range is $37.30 – 59.93 per hour / $2,238 – $3,596 bi-weekly based on qualifications and experience.
