ATESL Edmonton Local Meeting
Dec 01, 2017
Friday, December 1, 2017
Welcome Centre, One World One Centre
12050 - 95A Street, Edmonton T5G 1M7
Agenda:
● 4:30 - 5:00 p.m. - Snacks, beverages, and reconnect with other ESL practitioners
● 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. - Remote presentation Literacy Learners’ Strategies: learning to
learn by Jean Campbell
The use of learning strategies will help literacy learners tackle the challenge of learning a new language. However, because their exposure to formal education has been limited, their repertoire of learning strategies will also be limited.
Many will have never thought of how they learn nor analyzed what works best for them.
Helping your literacy learners identify and use specific learning strategies appropriate to their level, will give them the support they need to be an active participant as they learn to learn.
Jean Campbell has been teaching ESL for over 30 years and ESL literacy for over half that time. She currently teaches a CLB 1L-2L class at the Saskatoon Open Door Society where she is also the Literacy Team Leader and a PBLA Lead Teacher. Jean teaches the TESL Certificate course: Literacy in TESL at the U of S. She loves working with literacy students and their teachers. In her spare time Jean likes to travel with her husband, Craig, and do creative kinds of activities, especially, with her children.
Hope to see you there!
