Building Critical Thinking in English Language Learners

Mar 07, 2024

The ATESL Central Alberta Local would like to invite you to please come join us online on Thursday, March 7th from 5:00 to 6:30PM (MST) for a free professional development workshop with the wonderful Rosalia dela Cruz from the Alberta Routes Initiative program with Norquest College.

Description:

Critical thinking is an essential life skill for English language learners across all proficiency levels. With intentional tasks, learners can develop a critical mindset while practicing language. This workshop revisits the concept of critical thinking and invites instructors to consider ways to integrate critical thinking activities in their lessons. Participants will explore strategies and communicative activities for fostering critical thinking in learners.

Speaker Bio:

Rosalia dela Cruz has been an ELT practitioner in Edmonton for 13 years, having taught ESL courses in MacEwan and NorQuest College. In the Philippines, she was also a teacher trainer, providing professional development to teachers in rural areas outside Manila, a role she is now reprising in Alberta as a Regional Advisor with NorQuest College’s Alberta Routes Initiative. As part of the team, she provides professional development to English language instructors, tutors, and other members of the community adult learning network to support their English language programs.
