Alberta Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies (AAISA) will be delivering an online-facilitated course on “Introduction to LINC Programming”, starting Tuesday, Aug 08, 2023, to Friday, Aug 11, 2023.
Course Description:
Instructing adult newcomers in LINC programs is a unique teaching context that may be unfamiliar to many individuals entering the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) sector. This course is designed to prepare prospective and newly hired instructors for the LINC sector and to explore the professional associations, learning resources, and best practices commonly utilized in the LINC classroom. Through this course, learners will discover what Language Instruction to Newcomers entails, who might be best suited for a career in LINC, how to work with adult newcomer learners in Canada, common resources and supports available to instructors, the types of programs a prospective teacher may find themselves in, and core equity and diversity principles present in LINC classrooms today. Students will engage in interactive class discussions, presentations and critical reading, group work, brainstorming sessions, resource exploration, and online discussions.
The course is offered for Free to our member agencies and is also free for IRCC funded agencies. Seats are limited and filling soon and confirmed to participants on registration basis. Member agencies are given preference for registrations. Please feel free to forward this information to your network.
