ATESL Calgary PD Session - June 6
Jun 06, 2017
Hello Calgary Members,
Our June PD session will be a double header.
Our first session will be an online presentation on using and integrating technology in language teaching and learning. Facilitators of the second presentation will share ice breakers and a series of activities related to the topic of cultural identity and diversity for all levels of ELL learners.
Details of the two presentations are as follows:
Integrating #edtech into Language Teaching & Learning by Bonnie Nicholas
Technology has transformed the way we learn. Should learning a language be any different? This interactive presentation will share with you some ways to integrate technology into language teaching and learning. Participants will look at criteria for choosing digital tools and Bonnie will share some tools and resources for learning more about andragogy and #edtech.
Cultural Identity: Icebergs and Icebreakers by Edi Casimirri and Andrea Scholes
What do you know about your learners? What do your learners know about you? Think icebergs, onions or flower petals.
Edi and Andrea will share a series of activities related to the topic of cultural identity and diversity. Some of the activities were designed and used by young adult literacy learners in Bow Valley College’s Bridge Program. Edi and Andrea will also share some other ideas on this topic that are suitable for more advanced or academic learners, or even outside the ELL classroom.
Please bring your own ideas for cultural get-to-know-you activities as well and share them with all of us.
