Hello ATESL members and non-members! Please join the Edmonton ATESL Chapter on Friday, November 29th, 2019 to reconnect and network with ESL practitioners and then hear from Laurie Osbaldeston, on using accommodations to reduce barriers.

English language classrooms most certainly will contain students who experience disability and those disabilities may not always be visible. The implementations of accommodations, both in the classroom and for assessment, can significantly reduce barriers for EAL learners. This session will encourage you to take a different look at disability, give suggestions for free and inexpensive computer-based options for assessment, and introduce teaching techniques which can help in the classroom.

Laurie Osbaldeston has worked for more than 20 years using assistive technology to reduce barriers for students who experience disability. She has repeatedly seen the impact that appropriate accommodations can make to students’ learning and is enthusiastic about sharing this message.
