In this session, Emily Albertsen and Suzanne Clavelle-Christensen will introduce a Literacy 3L/4L Module, Going to a Powwow. They will talk about the project goals and the importance of working with a subject-matter expert. They will also give you a sneak peek into the module and offer some teaching suggestions.

Topics for discussion will include:

• Why is it important to teach about Indigenous cultures to EAL literacy learners?
• How can we celebrate Indigenous cultures with EAL literacy learners?
• Do you already teach Indigenous cultures in your classroom?
• If yes, what are some of the resources you use?
• If no, what are some of the barriers for you?
