Bring Banff National Park to Your Classroom

Bring Banff National Park to Your Classroom with free Parks Canada virtual programs for English language learners (ELL)

Participants will learn about what makes Banff special and how to enjoy Canada’s national parks responsibly. Programs are geared to a range of Canadian Language Benchmark levels and are available to Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) funded ELL classes in the Calgary and Bow Valley area with a minimum of 20 students.

Presentations:

  1. Plan Your Park Adventure in Banff National Park
    Careful planning will help you have a safe and rewarding visit to Banff National Park while protecting the very things that make it special. Students will learn about popular summer activities as well as some of the tools, resources and tips for planning a visit to Canada’s first national park.
    Length: 60 minutes (presentation 30 minutes, Q&As 30 minutes)
    CLB Levels: 3-4
  2. Wildlife and You
    One of the most exciting things about visiting Banff National Park is the chance to view wildlife like bears and elk in their natural environment. Participants in this program will identify and learn about some of these animals, and what they can do to keep both themselves and wildlife safe.
    Length: 90 minutes (presentation 30 minutes, Q&As 30 minutes)
    CLB Levels: 3-4
  3. Life Lines – Exploring Banff’s Wildlife Corridors and Crossings
    This program introduces students to some of the animals that call Banff National Park home along with some of the challenges they face. Students will learn about how technology and careful management are helping wildlife move safely through the park, as well as actions they can personally take to support park wildlife.
    Length: 60 minutes (presentation 30 minutes, Q&As 30 minutes)
    CLB Levels: 6-8
