February 25: My Canadian English: Making reading instruction and basic information accessible through YouTube

Do you wonder why it can be so hard to learn to read and spell in English? Come find out what I’ve been studying about reading instruction for English language learners, especially in the context of LINC, PBLA, and task-based learning/assessment. Learn about the science of reading, phonemic awareness, letter-sound correspondence, observable reading behaviours, and more. My videos are designed to make reading, as well as information about things in Canada, more accessible to ALL learners, including those in the lower levels.

Presenter: Shona Nichols is an English language instructor, mom, pet-lover, world traveller, and YouTube Content Creator for My Canadian English. Having previously taught CLB 1L, CLB 3L, and CLB 6 classes in LINC, she currently teaches online at the U of A’s English Language School. Shona loves going to school: Bachelor of Arts (English Literature) in 1995, Juris Doctor (law degree) in 1999, and a Master of Education (Teaching English as a Second Language) in 2022.
