June 24 - Brave Conversations

Workshop summary: In this presentation we will discuss pertinent ESL topics including how to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all EAL/ESL learners with a focus on 2SLGBTQ+ terms and identities. We will examine topics which are often overlooked in an ESL/EAL course, such as 2SLGBTQ+ rights and history and addressing why these concepts are often not incorporated in our classes, how to respectfully introduce them into our ESL/EAL curricula, and the importance of inclusive instruction.

Presenter Bio: Alexandra Marshall (she/her) has been teaching EAL for over 15 years in a wide range of contexts. Alex previously worked on the Rural Routes project as the Northern Regional Advisor, is an experienced CLB assessor and currently is the chairperson of the ATESL advocacy committee. Alex is passionate about working with newcomers to Canada and contributing to the betterment of EAL instruction.
