All You Need is (Embodied) Rhythm: Pronunciation and Beyond!

Mar 19, 2024

Presenter: William Acton, Professor and Director, MA TESOL, Trinity
Western University, Langley

Ever felt in a crunch when teaching English pronunciation to adults or
children? Or, ever wondered how to learn more about teaching
pronunciation in general? Well, check this webinar out to be the first
ones to know techniques that have never been shared before!

Learn from someone who has been doing this for about 50 years and has
published several research papers, chapters, and books in the field of
ELT. Learn about using embodied rhythm for "supra" vowels and
consonants in multi-syllable words. Participants will come away with a
fun, effective technique for using rhythm and stress, and memory for,
to improve pronunciation of words longer than one syllable. You will
get introduced to haptic pronunciation teaching for K-12 students.
Finally, you will learn about using the "whole body," an approach to
enhancing student attention and general class "milieu" and ways of
destressing during the day.

Presenter bio: Our presenter, William Acton (Bill), has been teaching pronunciation for about 50 years. Almost from the beginning, his main interest in
his teaching and research was the role of gesture, and the whole body,
in learning another language. About 15 years ago, he "discovered" just
how important touch is to pronunciation teaching. And, about two
months ago, he stumbled on a new set of rhythm-based techniques that
did an amazing job of almost "instantly" improving clarity of vowels
and consonants in multi-syllable words.

Bill shall be sharing these techniques publicly, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!!!

We can't wait to see you, and learn with you, on March 19th, at 5 pm!
