Let’s Talk About Giving Directions
Oct 16, 2025
Please join us and guest host Shannon McGillivray on Thursday, October 16th at 4PM (MST).
In this session, Shannon McGillivray from Regina Open Door Society will share practical, hands-on activities for the theme "Giving Directions in my Community." Everyday objects such as masking tape, cereal boxes, and toy cars can be used to create an immersive experience where students get real-time feedback. We will also consider how to prepare students to deal with the unpredictable, "messy" nature of real-life interactions in the real world.
Discussion Questions:
- In the age of GPS, is it still important to teach this topic?
- What are the differences in style and vocabulary between teacher-prepared materials and "authentic" language students encounter in the community?
- How can we better prepare students for conversations outside the sheltered environment of class?
- What are your favourite ways to make learning practical and hands on, with other topics?
Please email DonnaClarke@Immigrant-Education.ca for the ZOOM link to this session.
