● 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. - Teaching with Settlement in Mind

How can settlement and integration be facilitated in a holistically supported ESL literacy program? Basic life skills and survival challenges such as housing, medical and finances create learning barriers. In this workshop, participants will learn about settlement issues common to newcomers and discuss ways to address them in their teaching.

Theresa Wall is an experienced teacher trainer with experience in the field of adult ESL literacy spanning classroom practice and research. She has worked with ESL literacy learners directly for more than a decade and has also worked in the areas of curriculum and materials development. She recently completed her Masters of Arts in English as a Second Language on the topic of ‘L1 Literacy and Its Implications for LESLLA Immigrant Women in Canada’.

Liette Wilson is an ESL Literacy facilitator at the Calgary Immigrant Women's Association. She has 10+ years of experience and expertise working with learners with limited formal education as well as in developing ESL literacy materials and curriculum.

Free parking is available in the back of the building or on the street. Sacred Heart can be reached by buses that go down 97 Street or across 107 Avenue. Please don’t park at the St. Josaphat Church.
