February 28- Using High and Low Tech Feedback to Enhance Learning

Norquest College
10215 108 Street NW, Edmonton, AB
Innovation Studio - CELT 5th Floor, 5-204D

Agenda:

This presentation will review the Written Corrective Feedback process proposed in Evans, Hartshorn & Strong-Krause, 2011. Presenters Evelyn Neame and Priscila Magaldi Netto will share how they adapted it to help their students reduce grammar errors and take charge of their learning. Secondly, they will explain the use of screen capture software to provide audiovisual feedback to students on written work, presentations, and recordings. Finally, they will discuss the research supporting their practices, as well as show mistakes to avoid, and highlighting students' results.

Evelyn received her Master's in TESL from the U of A in 2013 and has worked at the Centre for Writers, NorQuest, CCI-Lex and the U of A. She is constantly looking for new ways to give feedback and her goal is that students learn to monitor their own progress.

Priscila holds an MA in Technology applied to TEFL from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK and has been teaching English for academic purposes at the U of A since 2011. Before working in Canada, she was an English Language teacher, trainer and curriculum developer in Brazil for over 15 years.

Hope to see you there!
