Benchmarking Applied Career Programs: Final Report
This is a collection of 3 documents. The first document describes the process in place for benchmarking career programs at Bow Valley College (BVC) in order to facilitate movement of ESL learners from ESL Programming and Academic Upgrading into career paths. Using the CLB as a framework, the English language proficiency levels (in listening, speaking, reading and writing) necessary for success in a course are identified. Data is gathered from observations, assignments, readability of texts, faculty feedback and learner feedback. Learner tasks are analyzed based on the performance conditions and samples tasks in the CLB 2000 document. Included in this resource are interview tools for faculty and students, a list of performance conditions, Language Task Organizers, and a sample consent form. The second document is a benchmarking report for five courses in the Education Assistant Program, Health and Community Care, at BVC. The third document is a benchmarking report for three mandatory courses for all learners registered in a career program at BVC: College Success, Introduction to E-Portfolio, and Career Skills Evaluation.
