This instructor resource includes 28 lesson plans which give students the opportunity to learn English while developing basic computer skills. The lesson plans were written to be used with Microsoft Office, its accessories, and Microsoft word (97). Each lesson plan includes language competencies that are being developed (referenced to CLB 3 & 4), along with detailed instructions & teacher notes, vocabulary, lab assignments, worksheets, and answer keys. The “Word Processing” unit (17 lessons) reviews the basic word processing skills taught in Byte into English LINC 2, and introduces features of Microsoft Word 97 (spelling, grammar check, formatting, page setup, working with tabs, writing business letters). The unit titled “Internet: Using the World Wide Web” covers topics such as identifying links, using URLs to access Web sites, performing simple word searches, and evaluating information found on the Web. The “Internet: Using E-mail” unit includes 5 lessons which enable learners to set up e-mail accounts and learn basic e-mail skills. Most of the lesson plans are theme based (and often linked to the themes in “LINC 3 Classroom Activities”) or easily adapted to a variety of themes.
