ELT Curriculum Overview

This syllabus is a course overview for “Enhanced Language Training for Skilled Immigrants in Engineering, Earth Sciences and Technology.” It includes an overview of the focus areas, thematic units, and learning model of the program. This document also lists the content of the course in the following areas: functions and gambits, special features of technical English, rhetorical writing patterns, grammar, pronunciation, workplace documents, culture and the Canadian workplace, and safety in the workplace. The accompanying document entitled ELT Curriculum Guide (also on this database) provides outlines for units on the following topics: 1) a program introduction; 2) surveying and construction; 3) earth sciences; 4) the environment and alternative energy; 5) machines, transportation, automation; and 6) natural resources.
