Knowing Your Literacy Students Project: Curriculum Guidelines and Cultural Material
This curriculum and cultural resource manual was produced as a result of the "Knowing Your Literacy Students" project, funded by Alberta Employment and Immigration. The manual is designed to enhance student-teacher relationships by increasing teachers' cultural knowledge and sensitivity to foster respectful communication in the classroom. The manual presents a customized lesson plan for teaching non-literate students. It provides materials, and activities for 8 of the 12 units suggested by the LINC curriculum guidelines. Each unit includes teaching objectives and the reading, writing, speaking, listening, and numeracy competencies that the lessons focus on, as well as detailed teaching notes and handouts.
