The Language Experience Approach: Making Digital Books for and with ESL Literacy Learners
Audio presentation by Shelley McConnell. Duration in minutes: 49:26 This session will demonstrate some ways in which low level ESL literacy learners can be introduced to computer technology at the same time they are learning to read and write for the first time. Drawing on the Language Experience Approach, teachers can work with learners to create personalized digital books that document their shared experiences and community needs. A short sample digital book will be made at the end of the presentation to show how quickly and easily these materials can be created during class time with low-level literacy learners and then used for ongoing independent reading.
