Work in Progress: Towards a Number of Comprehensive Assessment Tools to Measure the Drop-In ESL Participants' Progress

Calgary Immigrant Educational Society is in the process of developing 3-4 comprehensive assessment tools for measuring the progress of drop-in ESL students in terms of their knowledge increase (e.g. life skills, social skills, employment aptitudes, information-based knowledge) as well as their English language growth. The findings will assist in the evaluation and revision of the current curriculum for the Drop-In ESL Program, the professional development training plan for volunteer tutors, and the timeline for the program, resulting in the development of an “Enhanced Drop-In ESL Program Model “. The project target group includes the Drop-In ESL Program learners at the Calgary Immigrant Educational Society. However, to enhance and expand services, the Calgary Immigrant Educational Society is willing to share the assessment tools and the enhanced Drop-In ESL program model they develop with other Drop-In ESL providers at provincial and national levels, after it has been approved by Alberta Employment and Immigration.
